Major League Moves

The Tampa Bay Rays rewarded manager Joe Maddon with a three-year contract extension on Wednesday. Maddon took over the team prior to the 2006 season and suffered through two losing campaigns before finding success, piloting the franchise to its first winning season, an AL pennant and a trip to the World Series in 2008. The Rays have averaged 90-plus wins over the past four seasons, with three playoff appearances during that span. Tampa Bay has lost in the ALDS in each of the past two seasons. Maddon led the Rays to a 91-71 record this past season and was named AL Manager of the Year for a second time. 

TCU In Trouble

Police made a drug bust at Texas Christian University on Wednesday morning, a sting which included the arrest of four football players. The six-month investigation by Fort Worth and TCU campus police resulted in 17 students being taken into custody. The football players arrested are: linebacker Tanner Brock, offensive lineman Ty Horn, defensive back Devin Johnson and defensive lineman D.J. Yendrey. The names of all four players have been removed from the roster on the team's official website. Brock, an All-American candidate, missed almost the entire 2011 season due to injury. The junior led TCU in tackles (106) in 2010.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth on Wednesday. Haynesworth was claimed off waivers from New England on November 9, a day after the Patriots cut the embattled Tennessee product. He totaled 20 tackles in seven games, including six starts, for Tampa Bay at the end of last season. In 123 career games with the Titans, Redskins, Pats and Bucs, the 30- year-old has compiled 347 tackles and 30 1/2 sacks.
